Matrabhasha Divas | 28th February, 2022
International Mother Language Day is being celebrated as Matrabhasha Diwas on February 28th. There was a programme organized by Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan’s Smt. Surajba College to promote and preserve our matrabhasha. It was a wonderful opportunity for everyone to express their feelings, love and gratitude towards their mother tongue. Students sang songs in their mother tongue such as Bengali, Hindi, Urdu, Konkani, Malayalam, Awadi, Kannada, Gujarati language. It was a thrilling experience to hear so many different languages under one roof.
On 28th February 2022, the celebration began with encouraging words for our principal ma’am Dr. (Smt.) Judy Grace Andrews. The event was well attended by all the enthusiastic students and faculty members in their traditional attire. The programme was hosted by the S.Y.B. Ed student Miss Poornima. The celebration started with a graceful dance performance on an awadi song by Deepa and Nidhi which created a joyous and energetic atmosphere. Then we went for the skit which was performed in Hindi, A comedy rhyme in Kannada language was recited Bhagyashri, then a group of S.Y.B. Ed students beautifully expressed how we should care for our oldies in our house. Afterwards there were songs melodiously sung by Poornima and Naheda in Malayalam and Tamil. The performances were so amazing as each song or skit had a hidden message for the audience. Darshana Makwana and Heli Saiya then narrated a story in Gujarati language. As Marathi language brings energy in everyone as it’s a symbol of courage, our powada group members came to present a powada on Savitribai Phule. It was a power pact performance.
Developing a respect for language which is not spoken much now and reminding its history is a very important thing. Urdu is one of the most beautiful tehzibi languages. Urdu shares its origins with Hindi, sometimes referred to as a ‘sister’ language of Urdu, with the mixture of Sanskrit, Persian and Arabic influences. Then we heard a beautiful hamd by Needa which is an astonishing word to praise the lord. That really helped us to connect to the almighty at that moment. And there was a skit performance done by my Urdu group. There was also a kokani story narrated by Ria and Felsy. Which amazingly described the carnival festival of Goa, really a language can also be understood by gesture.
Moving ahead with the programme, Our Principal, Dr Judy Grace Andrews thanked the teacher coordinators and appreciated the efforts of the students through her motivating speech. The vote of thanks was proposed by Heli Saiya, after which everyone rose for the National Anthem marking the end of the matrubhasha divas.
