Report on Gandhi Jayanti Celebration | 02 Oct 2021
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated with an insightful session and great excitement by Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan’s Smt. Surajba College of Education. 2nd October is a red- letter day for our institute not only because we follow Gandhian philosophy but also because it is the inception day of our college. The programme was organised online by Gandhi Shikshan Bhavan’s Smt. Surajba College of Education on 2nd October 2021 at 11:30 am IST, via Zoom meet. The speaker for the day was Ms. Pragati Chaswal, founder of SowGood Farm. The coordinators of the webinar were Prof. Sabiha More and Prof. Priti Chandorkar. The webinar was hosted by Prof. Sabiha More who with her enchanting words made the programme all the more inspiring and compelling.
As a ritual of our institute, the webinar began by remembering the Almighty by singing the Sarvadharma prayers followed by the beautiful song “Vaishnav Jan to” sung by Bhagyashri Badigi, a student of our college. Following this was the Lamp lighting ceremony done by Ms. Pragati Chaswal. This was followed by a beautiful video representation of “Deepo Utsav” by Poornima Warrier, a student of our college. The video beautifully depicted how the people of Wardha and “Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University” light diyas to pay tribute to the vision, values and principles of Gandhiji on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. A brief welcome address was given by our I/C Principal Judy Grace Andrews. Prof. Priti Chandorkar did the honours of introducing out guest speaker, Ms. Pragati Chaswal with her loving and inspiring words.
Ms. Pragati Chaswal is the founder of SowGood Farm, an organisation that not only grows delicious food but also believes that farm provides the perfect learning experience for people of all ages. She started her presentation by giving us a brief introduction of her organization and a video showing small children working on farms, growing food on their own. Through the video and her presentation we learned that learning takes place best in nature. We were amazed to see children of such a small age doing so well on the farm without any assistance. It was amazing to see how some children who had a hard time doing simple math in class could do high level calculation in the field. It was inspiring to see them work with such enthusiasm. This with no doubt follows the Gandhian philosophy of Nai Talim, learning by doing.
It was an interactive session where the students interacted with Ms. Pragati throughout the session. Ms. Pargati threw light on the fact that there are so many things that we use in daily life that are so harmful to the environment and how we can recycle and compost garbage which will decrease the increasing amount of garbage as well as protect nature. It made us realise how we neglect our mother nature when it gives us so much in return. Our negligence harms the environment which in turn affects everything in nature. It was indeed an amazing and eye opening session. Next was the question- answer session where Ms. Pragati answered all the questions asked to her. A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sunayana Kadle followed by the National Anthem which marked the end of the amazing webinar.
